Importing songs from a CD
Home Page | FAQ | Support

MDB2000 does not look up CDs on the internet. Your CD ripper does that for you.
A ripper (such as Windows Media Player) copies the songs from the CD to your computer and fills in the artist, album and song titles. MDB2000 then reads those names from the files.

Part 1 - Rip the CD with your favorite ripper

  1. Open your ripper (for example Windows Media Player).
  2. In the ripper's settings, choose MP3 (or WMA) and a high quality such as 320 kbps.
MDB2000 reads song names from MP3 and WMA files. Other formats (M4A/AAC, FLAC, ALAC, WAV) do not give MDB2000 the song names.
  3. Rip the CD. Let the ripper find the album name and song titles before you start.
  4. Keep one folder per CD. Most rippers already do this (a folder for the artist, with a folder for each album inside it).
You can also name the folder yourself, for example CD0001 Kenny G - The Moment.

Part 2 - Import the folder into MDB2000

  1. In MDB2000, open the Add/Import menu and pick
Import MP3 WAV or other audio files (titles/artists) into database.
  2. STEP 1: pick the drive, then the folder for that one CD.
  3. Type a Disk ID for the CD, for example CD0001. (MDB2000 asks for it - it is required.)
  4. Tick Append Track # to ID above like ID-001.
Each song then gets its own number: CD0001-001, CD0001-002, and so on.
  5. Leave Include Sub Directories unticked when you import one CD.
  6. Click Start finding songs from the above location, then START importing NOW.
  7. For the next CD, pick its folder and use the next ID (CD0002, and so on).

Tip - a whole music folder at once: pick your main music folder, tick Include Sub Directories, and use one Disk ID such as HD (for hard drive). The songs then do not get a separate ID for each CD.
